Why do womens' shoes hurt so much?

Dansko professionals.

It might not be the shoes. You may be succumbing to plantar faciitis. Welcome to teacherhood. :\

I wore heels. I forgot to buy more flats (that I can also wear socks with - I hate stockings) this summer. I will get on that right away.

Which reminds me that I need more trouser socks and anklets so I can wear heels if I want to. I'm not sure that I'll want to, though. I am doing a lot more walking around this year.

seriously? years and years of conditioning to convince women to wear shoes which are designed to destroy your feet, I'd be highly surprised if they didn't hurt. Screw the patriarchy, wear sneakers.

I get in trouble from my boss for wearing sneakers DESPITE the fact that our school is built in a FIVE STORY BUILDING. Ugly orthopedic shoes are just fine, but nice-looking sneakers are a no-no. And so it comes down to the age-old dilemma - good-looks, or being practical. Why must it always be either/or?

Because when you say naughty things to them, they kick you. Their shoes are pointy and their legs are much stronger than you'd think. Some even think the groin is a legitimate target.

Because you live in a concrete jungle city? I sneak in sneakers every chance I get... Burks are your friend, they even make dress crocs nowadays.
Shoes are evil, but the days of teaching barefoot are really over

It doesn't. Wear the sneakers and challenge the dominant paradigm. Changing the world, one pair of shoes at a time!

I'm being flip here, obviously. But, given your relationship with your boss, can it actually get any worse if you wear comfortable shoes?

B/c they are designed by men who don't have to wear them. And they are also usually designed on a last meant for smaller feet, so much with clothes designed for the size 0, they don't fit properly when sized up.

Check zappos. They have some stylish shoes for larger sizes that are also comfortable and work appropriate w/o being frumpy. Also, you can just walk to work in one pair and switch when you arrive.

I love Zappos. Most of my shoes come from Zappos. Also, I think you have a point about the shoes being designed for smaller feet, and smaller women in general. A size 0 woman in heels probably does not experience the same world of hurt that I do trying to balance a size 12 on my toes. Does. Not. Work.

Because most women buy them for looks not comfort.
